Start with the feel, not the number.
Thickness is one part of a paddle’s personality. The core, face, shape and balance work together. Comparing the same model in two thicknesses makes the difference easier to understand.

What does swing weight tell me?
Swing weight describes how much resistance you feel when moving the paddle. Within this pair, 113 is easier to accelerate than 117. It is different from the weight you see on a scale.

What would you like to feel?
Choose a priority to explore the RPM V2 pair.
Your preference is the starting point.
For a lively attacking response, explore the 14mm. For more cushioned contact and stability, explore the 16mm. Neither thickness is a shortcut to better technique.
Explore the V2 Ella Oh 14mm
Its faster rebound and lower swing weight suit quick attacking exchanges. Think about whether that lively response also feels comfortable on your dinks and resets.
Explore the 14mmExplore the V2 Ella Oh 16mm
Its more cushioned response and added stability suit players who prefer a calmer contact. Check that the slightly higher swing weight feels manageable in fast exchanges.
Explore the 16mmStart with the paddle you already know.
Name one thing you like about it and one thing you want to change. Grip comfort, handle space and balance may matter more to you than a 2mm difference.

Three checks before you choose.
Check the fit
Hold the grip comfortably. If you play a two-handed backhand, make sure the handle gives your second hand enough room.
Feel the balance
Notice how easily the paddle moves into position. A comfortable weight on a scale can feel different once you start swinging.
Try the same five shots
Dinks, drops, resets, counters and drives. If you can demo both versions, repeat that sequence and notice which response feels easier to control.
Your questions, answered.
Is 16mm always better for beginners?
No. Start with a comfortable grip, a manageable weight and a response you can control. A thicker paddle does not automatically make it the right fit.
Does 14mm always mean more power?
No. Core construction, face material and weight also affect the response. The RPM V2 14mm is the livelier option in this comparison; that does not make every 14mm paddle more powerful than every 16mm paddle.
Will a thicker paddle give me more handle space?
No. Handle length is a separate specification. Both RPM V2 Ella Oh models here have a 5.5-inch handle.
